An experienced guide can remove some of the hardship

This morning my stockbroker called and asked if I’d like to be $900 richer, I quite liked the idea so I took his recommendation. And consequentially, my very first “Put Ratio Spread” has been profitable… So far - it’s not over yet!

Those who aren’t familiar with Option Trading are probably wondering what the heck a Put Ratio Spread is. About a week and a half ago I was wondering the same, so to better understand I decided to trade one, following a recommendation from my broker of course.

A Put Ratio Spread is buying 2 puts and selling 1 put. My broker explained the market was going to “bounce”, meaning the stock would rise in value for the short term but decline in the longer term. So the idea is to buy back the sold put after the stock bounces and sell the two bought puts after the stock has declined.

Maybe that’s different to how some manage such spreads, but my broker prefers to close out positions the moment they become profitable, rather than waiting for options to expire. This perhaps results in lower profits but in an unpredictable market it also lowers the risk through less exposure time.

Sure enough the market bounced and I profited on that leg of the trade so now I’m waiting for the stock to decline. The nice part is this trade has limited loss potential but UNLIMITED profit potential. Of course the stock price may not decline and I’ll lose money, but my broker’s recommendations are usually profitable. So far 14 out of the 15 trades with this broker have been profitable.

Looking at the bigger picture, it cost me $1350 to enter the trade and I’ve already recouped $900 (minus brokerage), so if all goes according to plan the remaining $450 will be returned plus a tidy profit.

Sounds good doesn’t it?

Master your mindset to conquer fear!

The other day my stock broker Emailed me a recommendation for a Bear Call Spread. The recommendation included a nice explanation of how the stock price would move and even a chart.

Nonetheless, I still didn’t take the recommendation due to fear! I won’t detail what a Bear Call Spread is, but it’s a stock market strategy where you profit when the stock decreases in value. Yep, that’s right, decreases. It also has a limited downside risk and you can make a nice profit on a small outlay.

In this case my outlay would have been around $2,500 to make $1,200 gross profit. So that’s a 48% return which compared to what banks offer is phenomenally nice. Of course banks usually come without risk and it’s the possibly of loss which creates fear.

So instead of taking the broker’s recommendation I decided to leave it for another day to see how the stock price would move. Silly me because over night the broker’s recommendation came true and the stock dropped by about 70 cents. This movement was substantial enough to make the $1,200 profit in under 24 hours!

The reason I held back was because I’ve profited from four consecutive trades (yes, four in a row so you’d think I’d have some faith) and became worried that my good fortune was about to end. Now that’s very a silly thought process. Anybody who understands the Laws of Attraction would be well aware you must align yourself with your desired outcome by thinking positively and believing the outcome is possible.

So while I didn’t lose any money, I still missed out on an opportunity to make $1,200 in less than 24 hours, with very little effort, and even the luxury of a comprehensive explaining why the trade was a great opportunity. I’m kicking myself! So the moral to the story is get your mindset in check when trading!

Review of The Secret on DVD

Oh no! “The Secret” has been buried, coveted and suppressed! The insatiable leaders of the past have kept The Secret for themselves so they could remain powerful while the masses remained ignorant. Well according “The Secret’s” highly dramatised introduction…

Ok, so what exactly is “The Secret?”

Getting right to the point, the crux behind The Secret is your thoughts dictate the outcome of your life, or put another way, how utilizing the Laws of Attraction enables you to become the master of your own destiny.

Now that may seem a complete load of hokum to some but apparently it suited many notable figures in history, including Einstein, Beethoven, Emerson, Plato and the like. So if those people were using the Laws of Attraction to achieve great success why isn’t everybody doing it? Are people really conditioned by the “powers that be” to disregard the Laws of Attraction or does it take a certain kind of person to accept them in the first place?

From my own experiences I feel nobody is hiding the Laws of Attraction from me nor anyone I know, yet I seem to be in the minority amongst my family and friends who is willing to accept them. Maybe the alleged suppression takes place at a highly intricate subconscious level hence why it’s so unnoticeable to me. But perhaps what makes me different is I want more than the house in the suburbs with the 2.3 children. In fact I want a lot!  A couple of years ago it dawned on me I required a different psychology, which was my choice and I believe many people also have that choice.

From childhood I was conditioned to get good grades, get a job and work 40 hours per week until I was about 60 and never stand above the crowd.  But I don’t feel this conditioning was so a minority could retain power and wealth. Rather I think it was derived from ignorance and the fact many people won’t even bother to “look out side box” – which is their choice.

So is “The Secret” a secret? Hardly! Information regarding the Laws of Attraction has been accessible in literature for over a century and now even more so with the Internet. The name and backstory seem more sensationalisation than anything, but fair enough because snaring the attention of a modern audience requires information to be presented in a form that is engaging and entertaining.

I was first introduced to the Laws of Attraction through Napoleon Hill’s timeless classic “Think and Grow Rich”. No doubt Hill’s philosophies prepared me to accept the ideas presented in The Secret, or are they a reiteration of Hill’s ideas? Interestingly enough The Secret doesn’t mention Napoleon Hill or Think It Grow Rich once, yet one of The Secret’s trailers indicates it disappeared completely in 1933 despite Hill’s great literary achievements from 1937 onwards.

My opinion of The Secret may seem cynical but this is not actually the case. I find The Secret to be great a modern documentary which explores in stunning visual detail the concepts introduced to me by Napoleon Hill. It explains it in clear and precise detail how the Laws of Attraction work, how everything in your life is attracted to you through your thoughts and how using tools like affirmations and vision boards enable your mind induce states of acceptance and belief.

So does “The Secret” actually work? The concepts put forth will not suit everybody and they will be too far outside the reality of some people to even entertain them. But is belief enough to make dreams and accomplishment happen? Think and Grow Rich insists “a definite plan of action” is a vital component of achieving success while The Secret alludes that merely focusing and believing will achieve the desired results. I’ve got a great vivid imagination but when combining it with a plan of action I find I produce better results. So I think I’ll keep planning, yet reinforce the outcome by believing it will be a great success.

Those who watch DVD once and that’s the only exposure they have to the Laws of Attraction probably won’t experience much change. However, it’s important to understand the Laws of Attraction is not a “do once” procedure and then everything falls into place, they are an entire psychology and perhaps a lifestyle. Using them to their fullest potential is something which must be worked towards and it may require years of conflicting psychology to be overwritten. Some will find this harder than others but it if that desire isn’t there it will never happen.

The Secret DVD is a great introduction to the Laws of Attraction, but if the individual is serious about mastering them they should research further and study people who’ve achieved success in the fields they wish succeed in. Nonetheless, we’ve all got to begin somewhere and The Secret is an enlightening 90 minute starting point. It is definitely uplifting material!

I’m going to watch The Secret a few more times so I can fully digest the material, but for those who haven’t seen it yet I’ve setup a page on my website with various methods of obtaining a copy, so:
